Social Studies
World Cultures
Students discover the history, geography, government, and culture of a variety of regions around the globe, using a host of primary, secondary, and ancillary materials to support their understanding and relying upon their own knowledge of the contemporary world in order to think critically about the influence of the historical events that have shaped another region's culture.
Pre-AP World Cultures
In this social studies course, students study people, places, and societies of the contemporary world, learning about the economic, geographic, and historical factors that influenced the development of these cultures. This course contains additional rigor, including accelerated pace, greater demands for analytical thinking, and increased responsibility outside of the classroom. Content will be delivered with greater depth and complexity, emphasizing student creativity and interdisciplinary projects.
Texas History
In Grade 7 students study the history of Texas from the early times to the present. Students examine the full scope of Texas history, including the cultures of the indigenous peoples living in Texas prior to European exploration.
Pre-AP Texas History
In addition to the regular curriculum for 7th grade social studies, students in Pre-AP Texas History will use primary and secondary sources to acquire information about Texas, from before current Native American History to present day. This course contains additional rigor, including accelerated pace, greater demands for analytical thinking, and increased responsibility outside of the classroom. Content will be delivered with greater depth and complexity, emphasizing student creativity and problem solving. Students should be prepared for independent reading and research and interdisciplinary projects outside of the classroom
U.S. History
In Grade 8, students pore over the history of the United States from the early colonial period through Reconstruction. Historical content focuses on the political, economic, and social events and issues related to the colonial and revolutionary eras, the creation and ratification of the U.S. Constitution, challenges of the early Republic, westward expansion, sectionalism, Civil War, and Reconstruction.
Pre-AP U.S. History
Pre-AP US History will present the 8th grade social studies Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) with a focus on analysis and synthesis of subject area content, processes, and skills. This course contains additional rigor, including accelerated pace, greater demands for analytical thinking and increased responsibility outside of the classroom. Content will be delivered with greater depth and complexity, emphasizing student creativity and problem solving.
